Men's Fashion And The Use Of Leather Down Through The Centuries
If there's a more durable and long-lasting material used in men's fashion, it's hard to find one more so than leather. Men's fashion and the use of leather down through the centuries is probably as old as the act of humans clothing themselves in some sort of animal skin or other material. It's been found that back then it was mainly used for either protective purposes or to cover feet, but it was there nonetheless.
It wasn't until humans began to form into complex societies that leather makers began to turn out utilitarian leather goods such as belts and even complete shoes. The next time a pair of leather brown boots are being considered for purchase, then, keep in mind how many thousands of years have gone into the art and craft of fashioning that leather into a stylish boot, for one thing.
Certainly the world of entertainment in the arts has been full of people who have looked at leather as almost a mandatory article of clothing, if only to give the impression that they are somehow wild and untamed. This is been the case for at least half a century, especially among hard rock musicians. This is to say nothing of motorcycle riders and their love of leather going back nearly a century.
And while leather certainly can look good and be very fashionable, is probably a good reason for why riders prefer it, especially on their bodies when they are riding their motorcycles. This is because it acts as a very durable protective material should an unfortunate rider hit the ground after dumping his or her bike. Think about how a leather watch strap, also, might serve a couple of different purposes and an idea of how useful leather is can be obtained.
And this is where leather is probably the most useful and where it's probably the most widely seen; in watch straps. Even something like a men's sport watch can feature a strap made of the hardy and durable material. Truthfully, most such watches feature some other kind of band material, but swapping it out for a leather strap can turn a sport watch into something a bit more elegant.
There are a number of different kinds of leather, just as there are a number of different kinds of leather production technologies, some as old as the first societies. All will share similar characteristics, especially the leather itself, which comes from the skin of an animal. Today, it can be found in objects as diverse as baseball gloves and the seats of automobiles, as a matter of fact.
Generally speaking, there really doesn't seem to be an area in sport or fashion where leather hasn't had an effect. It can serve purely functional and utilitarian uses or it can serve purely fashionable uses. It certainly has had a very long history with humans going all the way back to when they first began to cover themselves up with it, which is something many people might not have thought about when they first looked at it in the store prior to buying it.
Behind the Basis Band's Pre-Launch Hype (INC)
It's not even shipping yet, but this little bracelet-like health monitor is a
darling of CES.
**There's no shortage** of health gadgets at CES this year. But one that
impressed me is the Basis Band, which you wear like a watch but instead of
telling time it monitors things like heart rate, Galvanic Skin Response (which
indicates your stress level), caloric burn, and sleep.
Once it starts shipping in a few months my bet is it's going to be a hit with
consumers who increasingly are buying self-tracking devices. Why? Unlike other
body-measuring tools, such as arm bands, chest, or forehead straps, this
little baby can stay on your wrist 24/7 and holds a charge for a week. And I'd
actually enjoy keeping it there all the time because it looks stylish and hip.
You can even take the sensor mechanism off the Basis band and attach it to
your wrist using your own wristbands or other materials, meaning you can match
it will different outfits. The device also syncs all its measurements to the
simple and clean-looking Basis cloud platform, which also includes social and
gaming components.
I first started hearing about Basis when I ...
