To achieve tone, sculpted muscles, and overall leanness, is it better to do isolated workouts or full body?

I just want to know whether or not I should spent 5 days a week at the gym working one or two muscles out each day, or if I'm better off going only 3 times a week and doing full body routines each time. I'm a 22 year old female, 5'8, 135lbs. and want to see more definition and muscle, but am just not sure which route is the best way to go.

You've got two opposing goals ( adding muscle mass, and losing fat,) so I think your best bet is to work on one at a time.

If you want more muscle mass, don't worry about getting lean until after you get your gains...Do the 3 times a week focusing on high weight and low reps, (be sure you're warming up and stretching after.) Make sure you get plenty to eat, carbs an hour before and protein within 45 min. of your workout. Don't worry about putting on a little fat at this point, your building muscle, and the more you gain, the easier and quicker it will be to lose the fat.

Once you feel like you're where you want to be mass-wise, you can start working on definition and start the 5 day schedule, starting with cardio and aerobics, with a little weight training, and once you start to lose some weight, you'll be able to focus on spot training with low weight and high reps to get the right shape!
