Benefits of learning to sing at home

Almost everyone loves singing. Even the most ungifted singers are overcome with an uncontrollable urge to  burst into song every so often. Singing at home is a great way to relax and can also be a great place to practice to become a professional singer. Sure you will need qualified vocal coaching if you want to master your voice and reach your singing goals. If you've always wanted to be a great singer but lack the necessary skills, then this article about how to practice singing at home is for you.

The benefits of learning singing at home
Aspiring singers usually choose to go to private singing lessons or to a vocal training school to learn to sing. There is no question that singing classes are an effective way to learn, but unfortunately they tend to be a luxury that not everyone can afford. Lucky for folks like us learning to sing at home is an affordable alternative and an excellent way to learn to sing. In most cases singing at home will also be the most convenient option. Here are some of the advantages of singing at home:

  • You have much more flexibility with your singing schedule.
  • Home singing lessons let you progress at a speed you're comfortable with.
  • There’s no pressure to impress anyone, which makes learning easier.
  • You can play home singing lessons over as often as you need to.
  • You get the best vocal coaching at a fraction of the cost.

With so many great reasons to start learning to sing at home, hopefully you're already convinced. Still have your doubts? Well allow me to respond to some of the common concerns people tend to have about learning to sing at home: (For more info check out this how often to practice singing article.)

Where do I practice when singing at home?
Anywhere where you can be alone and concentrate is a good place to practice singing. It would be great if you could find a practice area that you can leave set up so when you are ready to practice your singing you don't waste too much time preparing.

When is the best time to practice singing?
My recommendation is to schedule your singing for a specific time each day. It up to you whether you prefer to sing in the mornings or later in the day. What's important is that you choose a time when you'll be best able to concentrate without too much distraction.

How long do I practice for?
Just how long you practice your singing will depend on your experience and skill. If you're a beginner then 20 minutes a day is a great start. As you progress you'll probably want to lengthen your sessions to 30 - 60 minutes. But don't forget that a 20 minutes practice session in which you're focused is preferable to an hour of unfocused practice. Also shorter regular practice is much better than occasional marathon training sessions. And don't strain your voice. If it gets tired, then rest it.

Learn to sing at home tips
My best advice is to stop looking for reasons why you can't sing and just start doing it. Practice in the shower or the basement if space is tight. Pressed for time? Then practice your vocal drills in the car to work or school. Don't let inconveniences hold you back. Also forget any hang ups you have about being heard during your home singing practice because with a little perseverance you will be a fantastic singer.

Rask sticks with it (Boston Globe)

After he backstopped the Bruins to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Columbus
Blue Jackets last night at TD Garden, Tuukka Rask, being a bit superstitious,
was asked if he would make it a practice to slam his stick against the
crossbar in practice before his starts, as he had done Wednesday.
